Setting up an account
If you are a first time visitor to Perfect Beat, you will need to set up an account to listen to sound clips, and make purchases. You will need to log-in each time you shop at Perfect Beat, but to make this task easier, we have added a "save log-in information as a cookie" button. Once you log-in and click on that button, your information will be saved there for future visits eliminating the need to type in your information each tme.
Don't remember my password
Underneath the login area, you will see a link for "password forgotten". Clicking on this sends you a new e-mail. It is important to know that the password sent is a combination of letters and numbers, and will be case sensitive. We recommend copying and pasting it into the log-in area. Once in, you can change your password by clicking on "edit account".
Weekly e-mails
By signing up for an account with Perfect Beat you automatically opt in to receive our weekly new release e-mails, they are legendary. But if for some odd reason you wish not to receive these informative e-mails, which highlights the weeks new big releases as well as indulge you in semi-humorous banter, then you can edit your account and turn the weekly e-mails off. But why would you do that.
What payment types are accepted
For digital downloads, we currently we only accept cards with the MasterCard or Visa logo. We will be adding more payment options, and this section will be updated regularly. We do accept American Express for physical products on the site, just not for music downloads.. yet.
How do I pay for my downloads
When you want to download a track, simply click the download button and the song is added to your shopping cart. You can add an unlimited amount of tracks to your cart. Once you are ready to checkout, go to your cart where you will see 2 separate baskets. One for physical products and one for digital downloads. It is important to know that you must checkout BOTH baskets. If you only checkout the download basket, we will not receive your order for the physical product. We are working on integrating the two, but for now, be sure you check out both baskets if you have purchases in both of them. For your download purchase, you will be asked for your credit card information including the 3 digit CVV number on the back of your card. Please make sure your billing information is correct as it could case a decline on your order. You will be charged for the total of your digital download cart. Unlike other music download sites, we do not preauthorize you card for a larger amount, tying up your credit line. You are always automatically charged for only your total digital purchase.
Errors on credit card processing
Our credit card processing company will verify the billing address you have on file with us to the address on file for the credit card you will be using. If it is not a match, you card may be declined. Also verify the spelling of your name, and the CVV code as those are also matched responses.
How do I download my purchases
Once you have made a purchase, you will be taken to a page with your order number on it, and a list of your available downloads. Simply click on each track to start downloading the song. If your computer crashes, or you lose that page, don't worry. Go to your history page in your account, and you will see a download history. Click on your recent order and the tracks are there for download. Keep in mind, you only have 24 hours to download a song once you purchased it. This 24 hour restriction is for the computer in which you purchased the track on. If you try downloading the song from a different computer, you only have one hour from the time of purchase. We attach to each file the IP address of the purchasing computer. After 24 hours, the purchase will be listed in your history, but it will be labeled "expired". Do not submit an order unless you are in a position to download the tracks within 24 hours, as we can not re-submit the tracks to you.
How do I play the songs I download
Depending on how you have your browser to handle the files will determine what happens to them once downloaded. If you have your browser set to play them in a media player, they will automatically load and play upon completion of the download. You can review the preferences you have set in your browser as to how it will handle MP3 files. You can import the MP3s into other programs for your personal use. If there are problems importing, please review the Technical Issues section.
I can't find my songs... Help!
All of our downloads have a file name that starts with the artist's name followed by the name of the song followed by the name of the remix and ends with an extension like MP3 or WAV. (ie... KristineW_TheBoss_Part1_TracyYoungsBigClubMix_320kbps.mp3) We recommend doing a search for the file name on your computer if you do not know where you have your music downloads set to save within your browser settings. If you are unsure if the file even downloaded, remember you have 24 hours to re-download your track from the same computer you purchased it from. Simply log in to your account, and click HISTORY. There you will see a history of your physical CD purchases and your download purchases. Simply click on your recent download order and as long as the file still says 'available', you can click on the track name to re-download it.
Sound quality
In most cases the MP3s are recorded from the original WAV files from the label. We never make any adjustments to the supplied file like EQing, normalizing, or remastering. We make every effort to review each track before posting it available on the site. That being said, if you feel there is a serious sound problem with a file, please contact us so we can review the file, and if necessary correct the problem. Keep in mind, some labels may have made a WAV file from a 12" record, as the master no longer exists. They may try to clean it the best they can, but you can still hear a difference. This is beyond our control, and we cannot be held responsible for the label's mastering practices.
Problems importing tracks in to other programs
Perfect Beat downloads have been encoded in I-Tunes versions 6.04. You can install the latest version of I-Tunes by going HERE. We have attached to each download an image, which corresponds to the track that will appear in any device that can display images. This encoding however, can effect the ability to import your downloads into other audio programs. To correct this, open the track in I-Tunes and use the Get Info command. There you can see the artwork, and remove it. The change in automatic, and the file should now be importable to any application that can read MP3s. You may want to save the image for use later by simply copying it and saving it as a .jpg
Browser concerns
We have tested the download store on all the popular browsers and operating systems with out any problems. If you have problems in an AOL browser, we do recommend trying the latest version of Internet Explorer, or Safari for our Mac friends. We opted to run our site in the simplest format with little to no flash to ensure an easy and trouble free experience. If you do come across any browser problems, please contact us so we can troubleshoot the problem.
What file types do you offer
Our files are being offered in MP3 format in both 192kbps and 320kbps. For those of you who do not know, good quality 192kbps files are better quality then the popular music file types you get on major digital music sites. As for the 320kbps files, they are the closest you can get to CD quality in MP3 format. We will eventually be offering WAV files so stay tuned for that. When you select a track for download, it will ask you to select a file type. Please note there are different prices for the different file types. Our files contain no DRM (Digital Rights Management) encoding. This means you can put it on any MP3 player, burn personal CDs, and import them in to other programs for personal use. It doesn't mean you can make copies of the songs you purchase from Perfect Beat and give them to all your friends, or upload them to P2P systems. We have encoded each download with a watermark so we can trace it back to a buyer if it is found on P2P sites, or if we receive a complaint from a label. Please respect the copyright holders, and when your friend asks for a copy of a song, tell them to download it for themselves. It's only the right thing to do.
Are your songs compatible with my MP3 player
Any MP3 you download from Perfect Beat will be compatible with all MP3 players including the I-Pod. If your player supports ID3 v.2, you can enjoy the additional information supplied with the track like Artist, Song Tile, Genre etc...
Why are there different prices for the downloads
We have allowed each label to set their own prices and even offer only certain file types. This was done in an effort to obtain the co-operation of so many labels. The standard prices for most downloads however are $1.49 for 192kbps files, and $1.99 for 320kbps files.
How often is the site updated
As with our regular site, we have one big update that occurs in the wee hours of the morning Thursday's. So when you wake up on Thursday morning these is a whole new site ready for you to check out! Most digital downloads will be also be posted at this time. However, due to the volume of downloads that will be made available, we will mostly likely be adding titles on a daily basis. Another words, keep checking back!
Are there restrictions on the songs I download
YES! Per our end-user agreement, you can not share your downloads with others, nor upload them to P2P systems. Violation of these terms will result in an immediate termination of your account. We have made strict agreements with the labels involved to protect their copyrighted material. Respect the labels and artists, not to mention producers, remixers, musicians, songwriters, engineers, back up singers, designers, and Perfect Beat by supporting the art and protecting it from piracy, You are allowed however to put the tracks you downloaded from Perfect Beat on to your computers music player, your portable device, and even burn CDs for your own personal use.
I accidentally deleted my music, can you help
Unfortunately we can not help you. We have agreements with the labels that prevent us from resubmitting tracks. Please be sure you make a back up of all the music you download. Kinda like your car being broken in to and losing you CD wallet, there is no store who would be able to replace your CDs. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the files backed up and in a safe place.
What is a territory restriction?
Some labels may only own a license for a track in certain territorys. This means if say a U.S. label licenses a track from the U.K., we may only be able to sell that track to customers in the U.S. if we were only able to get an agreement from the U.S. company. When a song is submitted to Perfect Beat, we ask what territory restrictions are in place for the song. We must abide by these restrictions. In most cases we will try to get an agreement from the label who owns the track in other countries we can offer the download to a wider audience.
