I'm surprised there haven't more reviews of this one posted. What a fantastic exclusive Perfect Beat has here! Debbie and Soul Seekerz pull off a great remix and it's great to hear new solo material from Ms. Harry after so many years. She still sounds great and knows how to work the dancefloor. Hopefully there will be enough interest in this single to warrant further remix releases from Debbie's new album. 11/07/2007

BWO (Bodies Without Organs) Fabricator
Import Full Length

BWO's sound lies somewhere between Army of Lovers and Alcazar - logical since Alexander Bard had a hand in all 3 groups. If you're a fan of either of those groups or Europop in general, you'll find a lot to like here. Lots of good, catchy ear candy. The songs sort of become indistinguishable after awhile though, so their remix abundant singles might be a better way to sample BWO if you don't want to commit to a full album. On the other hand you'll only find uber-cheesy tracks like "Last Flight To San Francisco" and "Gomenasai" on the album and you get two bonus remixes by The Attic, so there is a lot to recommend here. 11/07/2007

LOVE this track! The album version is incredible - Swedish pop at it's finest. I miss hearing music like this on the radio. The Michael Feiner Bonus remix sounds the best from the soundclips but I love the original so much I think I'll end up enjoying all the mixes. If you ever liked ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, A*Teens, BWO, Alcazar or anything that's come out of Sweden, you must check this out. 11/01/2007

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit how much I LOVE this song. The older I get the more unusual it is to have such a visceral reaction to a song or album. I feel like I'm 13 again discovering the wonders of 80s synth-pop for the first time... This song isn't synthpop at all but it does have strange, haunting lyrics and absolutely gorgeous chord changes during the chorus. I would love to hear a trancier-type remix or really any mix that doesn't drop all the beautiful MUSIC in the song. The only mix included here is electro and doesn't do justice to the song at all. It's okay but nothing more. I can just imagine a gorgeous soaring remix that would make you feel like you're floating it's so beautiful. Calling Above & Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden, Aurora, Chicane... Okay, I'll put down the pipe... Anyway, 5+ stars for the song, 3 stars for the remix. Oh, yes - the original Ringside version is also very good but I think I actually prefer Enrique's vocals. And I never in my life would have imagined typing those words. Music really can do strange things to a person! 10/03/2007

Just WOW! If you ever liked any Deborah Cox track in the past you will LOVE this. The Tony Moran mix is stellar but the Offer Nissim mix takes it to a whole notha level. Plus, his remix of "Easy as Life"! Okay, it's a few years old but it's still a great song. Throw in the unreleased mix of "A House is Not a Home" and this is by far the best $11 dollars you'll spend all month. ADD TO CART! 10/03/2007

I love Chicane and am so glad to see a new release. But seriously, is that Wing singing on "Always"? Hope there's a vocal-free dub of that one somewhere... 08/08/2007

Actually, the Peter Rauhofer mixes are my least favorite here. Check out the Mark Saunders, Goddollars or Vanity Police mixes instead. I like the SilverSpirit mix too, but the BPM might be too much for the dancefloor. 08/05/2007

Hi On Life Featuring Joniece Goodbye
Import CD Single

Love a good "f*** you" song and this one is excellent. Great vocals from Joniece in true diva style. Best mix? Well, it's a tossup between the 7th Heaven and Shanghai Surprise mixes and DJ Tekin comes in a very close third. The only mix that doesn't do much for me is Bimbo Jones. Definitely a keeper! 06/24/2007

As an Erasure fan for 20+ years, it pains me to hear their recent releases. Andy & Vince sound like they are just going through the motions any more, with no real enthusiasm for the music their making. Their new album LIGHT AT THE END OF THE WORLD has a few catchy tunes but sounds like it was recorded with a Casio synthesizer in someone's garage. "Sunday Girl" is one of the stronger tracks on the album but it was definitely screaming for remixes. The Riff & Rays mix is good and breathes some more life into the album version but I hope there are other mixes that will be included on the domestic release. 06/14/2007

You know, I never really got into that Benny Benassi hit "Satisfaction" from a few years ago so whenever I saw his or the Benassi Bros. name I never paid much attention. So I've missed out on a lot of Dhany's previous releases under the Benassi Bros. featuring Dhany moniker. My loss! This girl can sing and the music is pure pop heaven. I predict this will be the soundtrack of my summer. Great, great music here - pop fans will not be disappointed. 06/14/2007

Wow, way to go Perfect Beat for getting the idiot powers-that-be to release this on CD. Hopefully they'll start listening to what the fans really want. I have to admit I wasn't completely blown away when I first heard these remixes but they've grown on me and they're sure to be huge during Pride celebrations this year. The Tracy Young mix will no doubt be the most popular but I also really like the Junky Junction/Anthony Reale Club Mix. And WICKED fans (like myself) will also really love the non-dance Single Version. Any chance the single dance edits version will get a CD release as well? I'd gladly buy them both. 06/07/2007

Inaya Day vs Bill Bennett Breakaway
Import CD Single - 2
|
 |
| |
Good stuff! I prefer the Bill Bennett mixes over the others - maybe because they sound truest to the original Big Pig version. The Anthem mix is just that. I can't hear it and not picture a dancefloor packed with sweaty, shirtless men dancing with hands in the air. The Chris Fraser mix is a bit more electro but somehow manages to suck all the energy out of the track. The Taylor Square mix is different (and good) in that it takes the song in a more classic pop/R&B arrangement - I could imagine Jody Watley singing it back in the day. 06/07/2007

Okay, this must be karmic payback for my slam of the Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy" remixes a couple weeks ago. This is really good! My favorite is the Luigi & Finbarr remix, but Solar City's is also excellent. Definitely the cheesy update to go for if you're looking for one (sorry, Fred.) 05/24/2007

The Soulcast Icon mix is killer! Can't imagine this *not* filling the dancefloor. Way to go, Jody! 05/03/2007

Even more shocking than this 'who-asked-for-new-remixes-of-THIS?' release is the fact that Right Said Fred are still actively recording new material. Who knew? Anyway, I couldn't hear any difference in the 2006 version and the original song - maybe it's been remastered or something. The Tastemakers mix is good if forgettable while the Soul Corporation mix brings a classic disco sound to the track, if that sounds appealing. Probably the best mix is the Liquid Nation New York Pussy mix which sounds more of a dub and samples some different, less familiar lines from the song. 05/03/2007

Man, how many times are they gonna screw up this release? First the UK part 2 remix CD never appeared, now this Australian version is filled with edits. Love Sophie and this is a good song which deserves a proper release - c'mon Germany, hook us up. (Or, heaven forbid, some wise US label!) 05/03/2007

YUM! A delicious pure pop confection. I'm partial to the original mix but the Minimal Chic mix is also excellent with a slightly harder, filtered disco edge for those who turn up their noses at anything too pop-sounding. Great stuff - keep it coming, Dhany! 05/03/2007

The Scotty K mixes are excellent but I love Jake Benson's Progressive Sunrise Mix best. Good, solid trance mix with almost no vocals. The Power Yoga mix is a nice chillout version. 04/29/2007

Great trip down memory lane. These were big hits when I was first coming out and going to gay bars. Doesn't seem so long ago and yet... Anyway, a good collection marred only by too many transfers from vinyl. That's why I buy CDs - so I don't have to hear that tell-tale popping and hissing. But if you had DJ friends making you mixtapes (yes, tapes) back in the day you might find the raw sound charming and nostalgic. 04/15/2007

Madison Park One Day
Domestic CD Single
|
 |

Hmmm, I usually like Madison Park but this one's just not working somehow. The original mix is best - the laid-back, Todd Terry-ish groove works better than the sped-up, NRG-ized remixes. Mike Rizzo comes closest to keeping the spirit of the original. 04/05/2007

Robbie Rivera Featuring Justine Suissa Float Away
Import CD Single
|
 |

Another great one this week. Justine Suissa's vocals are gorgeous and there's a great selection of mixes to choose from. But why so many edits? Is there a "Part 2" single available with the extended version of some of the edits? Would love to hear the full Brian Cross mix. Fortunately, the extended mixes which are included are all excellent. The Bimbo Jones mix is probably the one to go to first, but the Fonzerelli Vocal is also very good. Fingers crossed that more extended mixes appear (or maybe Perfect Beat can get them as downloads) but definitely one to get this week. 04/05/2007

Wow, I really like this! Great male vocals, lots of great mixes to choose from. Love the "Music Sounds Better With You" riff in Josh Harris' French Kiss mix but both of his mixes are excellent. The Retrobyte mix is a bit trancier and also excellent. Really, something for just about everyone here. If Perfect Beat's store were still open I'd be on my way down there tonight to pick this up. (And I swear I'm not Robbie Russell!) Check it out! 04/05/2007

Great original but once again the remix sucks. I love Scissor Sisters but I have yet to hear a remix of one of their songs I like. BTW, shouldn't this release be on the "hubba-hubba" list this week? That guy on the cover is beautiful - Lucas Ridgeston, no? 03/08/2007

Really, really like the Kris Menace mixes. They fit the song well. I'm transported back to 1984 when I first remember hearing Madonna. Throw in the Pet Shop Boys backing vocals and synth riffs that sound similar to "Don't You Forget About Me" and it's high school all over again. The Chris Lake mix doesn't work for me but fans of electro might like it. Also check out the Kris Menace remix for LCD Sound System "North American Scum". I don't know who Menace is but I like what he's (he? she?) done on these two tracks. 03/08/2007

On the plus side of the brick-and-mortar store going away, I won't have to face anyone while buying cheesetastic CDs like this anymore. Ah, memories of bringing a stack of 'cooler' music to the counter with something like this buried in the middle. Like buying porn, only more shameful... Thanks for never judging me, PB. 03/08/2007
