Yes, Almighty have released this single about a zillion times already. But the new "Anthem" mixes (with an "I Will Survive" style theme running throughout) are actually very good. If you've never picked it up before, this version is a good one to grab. 12/20/2007

Great song with a TON of remixes to choose from. But I can't stop listening to the "Last Christmas" remix. Fun and just in time for Christmas! Great value - add to cart! 12/11/2007

I listened to the Freemasons mix with the Alanis vocals and I think I actually prefer this cover version. The Alanis version drags quite a bit - this single tightens the track up nicely. The WAWA mix is the best offered here. The problem is, the Freemasons take on this track offers absolutely nothing new over the Deja Vu feat. Tasmin version from Almighty a few years ago or the original white label mixes of Alanis' original back in the day. Basically, if you were around for those mixes you'll pass on this. Youngsters will probably snap it up. 11/30/2007

Ouch! It's too bad they couldn't package the Greatest Hits and Remix CD together at a more affordable price. (Do people really want much less buy those Karaoke CDs? How about a disc with the updated 2007 remixes instead?) I was never a big enough Spice Girls fan to indulge in this one but it seems pretty hard to come by domestically so Perfect Beat is your best bet for getting it. Hopefully, when this gets an official domestic release next year they'll make the remix CD more affordable 11/28/2007

For me it's all about the Mark Ehrhoff mix. He injects an energy into his mix that's lacking in the Speakerbox and Tony Moran/Warren Rigg mixes. Never heard of him but I see his name on several new releases this week. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for his mixes in the future. 11/18/2007

A good, fun cover of KT Tunstall's track. It's solid Almighty so either you like that or you don't. I'm a longtime Almighty fan and think this is one of their better productions in recent years. Of the 3 new Jackie O singles, this is my favorite. Note that the 12" Anthem mix is available on the Jackie O Back To Bitch Bonus Discs collection and the 7" Radio edit is on the first CD set, so if you're buying either of those compilations you may not need the single. The Dub and Instrumental mixes are exclusive to the single. 11/08/2007

I'll admit that I dismissed this one when I first heard it. The Berlin original is one of my favorite tracks from the 80s that I never really get tired of. It's a tough track to cover which is probably why there haven't been many covers of it over the years. But the song is so haunting I keep coming back to this Superjade version and it does have it's selling points. The Spekrfreks mix is my favorite - probably the most faithful to Berlin's original while still bringing something new to the song. But the other mixes all have a lot going for them as well. Lots of different styles that will work for various dancefloors. Superjade's vocals remind me of Debbie Harry and I could always hear a lot of Blondie influence in Berlin's music so it all kind of comes full circle. It's definitely worth a second listen if it didn't grab you the first time. 11/08/2007

Jackie O has always been one of Almighty's stronger projects. The first disc in this collection is unmixed tracks - some 7" edits, some extended. The 2nd disc is a 24-track megamix of pretty much all Jackie O tracks ever. As with all Almighty collections, there is a lot of recycled material here but a lot of new stuff as well. Hardcore fans will want to head straight to the Bonus Discs 3 & 4 collection which is all 12" unmixed tracks. 11/08/2007

Good collection of tracks from Jackie O, one of Almighty's strongest projects and singers. A lot of recycled material here but some new stuff as well. Great if you don't have all of Jackie O's previous singles or first album. Note that these Bonus Discs are CDRs while the other set is pressed CDs. 11/08/2007

Dance cover of Carrie Underwood's hit single. If you liked any of Jackie O's Shania Twain covers this will work well for you. The 7", Dub and Instrumental mixes are exclusive to this single, but the 12" is also included on the Jackie O Back To Bitch collection. Just a heads up for those only interested in the 12" mix. 11/08/2007

Not a song I ever longed to hear as a dance remix, but Jackie O pulls it off well. Can't really imagine hearing it on the dancefloor though. The 12" mix is also included on the Jackie O Back To Bitch 2 CD collection. 11/08/2007

This is a cover of the Robyn single in typical Almighty dance-pop style. I didn't really like any of the mixes of Robyn's original so this cover works for me, but others may disagree. Belle's vocals are similar enough to Robyn's that you might not even realize it's not the original on a casual listen. 11/08/2007

BWO (Bodies Without Organs) Fabricator
Import Full Length

BWO's sound lies somewhere between Army of Lovers and Alcazar - logical since Alexander Bard had a hand in all 3 groups. If you're a fan of either of those groups or Europop in general, you'll find a lot to like here. Lots of good, catchy ear candy. The songs sort of become indistinguishable after awhile though, so their remix abundant singles might be a better way to sample BWO if you don't want to commit to a full album. On the other hand you'll only find uber-cheesy tracks like "Last Flight To San Francisco" and "Gomenasai" on the album and you get two bonus remixes by The Attic, so there is a lot to recommend here. 11/07/2007

I'm surprised there haven't more reviews of this one posted. What a fantastic exclusive Perfect Beat has here! Debbie and Soul Seekerz pull off a great remix and it's great to hear new solo material from Ms. Harry after so many years. She still sounds great and knows how to work the dancefloor. Hopefully there will be enough interest in this single to warrant further remix releases from Debbie's new album. 11/07/2007

LOVE this track! The album version is incredible - Swedish pop at it's finest. I miss hearing music like this on the radio. The Michael Feiner Bonus remix sounds the best from the soundclips but I love the original so much I think I'll end up enjoying all the mixes. If you ever liked ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, A*Teens, BWO, Alcazar or anything that's come out of Sweden, you must check this out. 11/01/2007

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit how much I LOVE this song. The older I get the more unusual it is to have such a visceral reaction to a song or album. I feel like I'm 13 again discovering the wonders of 80s synth-pop for the first time... This song isn't synthpop at all but it does have strange, haunting lyrics and absolutely gorgeous chord changes during the chorus. I would love to hear a trancier-type remix or really any mix that doesn't drop all the beautiful MUSIC in the song. The only mix included here is electro and doesn't do justice to the song at all. It's okay but nothing more. I can just imagine a gorgeous soaring remix that would make you feel like you're floating it's so beautiful. Calling Above & Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden, Aurora, Chicane... Okay, I'll put down the pipe... Anyway, 5+ stars for the song, 3 stars for the remix. Oh, yes - the original Ringside version is also very good but I think I actually prefer Enrique's vocals. And I never in my life would have imagined typing those words. Music really can do strange things to a person! 10/03/2007

Just WOW! If you ever liked any Deborah Cox track in the past you will LOVE this. The Tony Moran mix is stellar but the Offer Nissim mix takes it to a whole notha level. Plus, his remix of "Easy as Life"! Okay, it's a few years old but it's still a great song. Throw in the unreleased mix of "A House is Not a Home" and this is by far the best $11 dollars you'll spend all month. ADD TO CART! 10/03/2007

I love Chicane and am so glad to see a new release. But seriously, is that Wing singing on "Always"? Hope there's a vocal-free dub of that one somewhere... 08/08/2007

Actually, the Peter Rauhofer mixes are my least favorite here. Check out the Mark Saunders, Goddollars or Vanity Police mixes instead. I like the SilverSpirit mix too, but the BPM might be too much for the dancefloor. 08/05/2007

Hi On Life Featuring Joniece Goodbye

Love a good "f*** you" song and this one is excellent. Great vocals from Joniece in true diva style. Best mix? Well, it's a tossup between the 7th Heaven and Shanghai Surprise mixes and DJ Tekin comes in a very close third. The only mix that doesn't do much for me is Bimbo Jones. Definitely a keeper! 06/24/2007

As an Erasure fan for 20+ years, it pains me to hear their recent releases. Andy & Vince sound like they are just going through the motions any more, with no real enthusiasm for the music their making. Their new album LIGHT AT THE END OF THE WORLD has a few catchy tunes but sounds like it was recorded with a Casio synthesizer in someone's garage. "Sunday Girl" is one of the stronger tracks on the album but it was definitely screaming for remixes. The Riff & Rays mix is good and breathes some more life into the album version but I hope there are other mixes that will be included on the domestic release. 06/14/2007

You know, I never really got into that Benny Benassi hit "Satisfaction" from a few years ago so whenever I saw his or the Benassi Bros. name I never paid much attention. So I've missed out on a lot of Dhany's previous releases under the Benassi Bros. featuring Dhany moniker. My loss! This girl can sing and the music is pure pop heaven. I predict this will be the soundtrack of my summer. Great, great music here - pop fans will not be disappointed. 06/14/2007

Wow, way to go Perfect Beat for getting the idiot powers-that-be to release this on CD. Hopefully they'll start listening to what the fans really want. I have to admit I wasn't completely blown away when I first heard these remixes but they've grown on me and they're sure to be huge during Pride celebrations this year. The Tracy Young mix will no doubt be the most popular but I also really like the Junky Junction/Anthony Reale Club Mix. And WICKED fans (like myself) will also really love the non-dance Single Version. Any chance the single dance edits version will get a CD release as well? I'd gladly buy them both. 06/07/2007

Inaya Day vs Bill Bennett Breakaway
Import CD Single
|
 |

Good stuff! I prefer the Bill Bennett mixes over the others - maybe because they sound truest to the original Big Pig version. The Anthem mix is just that. I can't hear it and not picture a dancefloor packed with sweaty, shirtless men dancing with hands in the air. The Chris Fraser mix is a bit more electro but somehow manages to suck all the energy out of the track. The Taylor Square mix is different (and good) in that it takes the song in a more classic pop/R&B arrangement - I could imagine Jody Watley singing it back in the day. 06/07/2007

Okay, this must be karmic payback for my slam of the Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy" remixes a couple weeks ago. This is really good! My favorite is the Luigi & Finbarr remix, but Solar City's is also excellent. Definitely the cheesy update to go for if you're looking for one (sorry, Fred.) 05/24/2007
