Average review:  3.5/5.0 (17 reviews)

I have this version and I really like it. Will PB be getting the L.E.X. and Soulshaker mixes? (d.b., 6/22/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Scherrie is absolutely FIERCE (as well as being a sweet, beautiful soul) and I can't wait to get this single! I have the original version and I love it! I am so happy for her recent success, with SISTERS UNITED (with Lynda & Freddie) and now the release of these new mixes. Perhaps she will finally get her just rewards for the fine vocalist that she is! If you enjoy great 70's R&B/disco, do yourself a favor and search for the amazing high-energy single "Fly", released in 1977 on Motown, right after The Supremes disbanded, ending Scherrie's successful run as their lead singer. And if you enjoy that track, keep digging and find the 1979 Motown album PARTNERS by Scherrie and Susaye Greene (another 70's Supremes alum). It features the Ray Charles collaboration "Luv Bug" as well as the standout tracks "Storybook Romance" and "Leaving Me Was The Best Thing You've Ever Done." You won't be disappointed! (B.B., 2/22/2007 see all my reviews >> )

I'm so happy to see this release from one of the female powerhouse vocalists of the past 30 years! Scherrie Payne has a great voice and she can really sing. It's no fluke that she's been dubbed "The little lady with the big voice." The remixes here are nice - and the music and the lady make this purchase a MUST HAVE item. Like others, I feel the packaging is skimpy... but the music's the thing. Get this woman in a studio to record a new full-length album, now! (A.W., 2/15/2007 see all my reviews >> )

What a treat having a Scherrie Payne single on the market! Scherrie is a show-biz veteran who still delivers the goods. Her vocals on this single were actually recorded in 1984, but this release on CD is appreciated by old and new fans alike. Ms. Payne and her producers would not claim to approach remixed dance tracks in the same manner as many of today's current artisst ... and that is OK! There is room for all on the dance floors and in our collections! Scherrie delivers this version of a "Dreamgirls" tune with great skill and clarity. It's a nice turn of events to be able to understand every word on a dance track. While the several varieties of remixes may not please everyone, this release is appreciated by many who enjoy a class performance cleaned up and AVAILABLE on CD ... and yes, even remixed for some of us! Congrats to all who got this single "out there." (TH 2/12/07) (J.H., 2/12/2007 see all my reviews >> )

"I would not be as harsh, if not for the fact that she has had a couple of DECADES to get it right! (V.S., 02/01/2007)" I have to jump in here, people. The vocals you are hearing are from Scherrie's original master recording on Altair/Megatone from 1984. Please don't judge by 30 second samples. Take a shot and download or buy the CD Single. Go to the Dreamgirls Dance Project website and watch Scherrie perform it at Avalon ... Scherrie is a great vocalist and I would appreciate a little respect for her here. Rick Gianatos, Producer. (R.G., 2/2/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Scherrie Payne’s EP, “One Night Only” revives her hit single from 1984 and creates much more impact! There is an opportunity to place this hit back where it started – on the dance floor again! Scherrie’s vocals give us the heart and spirit that this song was intended to deliver, whether it is for the dance floor, or your MP3 player. Thank you, Altair! (G.R., 1/13/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Have the vinyl original on Megatone, and I'm grudgingly going with the download. But I'm old skool! I want a CD with a picture and credits, etc. Come on, Altair. Give us old folks the real stuff here. New mixes are hot, especially the Retrolicious mix. The remastered original sounds good too. Will be at Avalon on 1/14/07 to see the Payne-killer in person! (C.M., 1/5/2007 see all my reviews >> )

I used to have Scherrie's original and remember being disappointed in it. I think it has more to do with the fact that the song itself isn't much to talk about. Outside the context of the musical from which it came, it doesn't stand well. Scherrie's live version on youtube is better, thanks %100 to her ability as a vocalist. These remixes are better, too... Come to think of it, the only song worth mentioning from Dreamgirls is the showstopper ("And I Am Telling You..."), and that's thanks to both Jennifers. Granted, I'm neither a DJ or a producer, but I do pay for my music. I downloaded one of these, not just because I like Scherrie's voice, but because I like the updated production. Since she still has the chops, I hope she gets to sink her teeth into something real good, real soon. (R.A., 3/8/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Scherrie Payne has a wonderful voice. It is powerful, strong, clear, and totally professional. Scherrie can sing anything, as is evidenced by her fine work with the Supremes and Former Ladies of The Supremes. The remixes of "One Night Only" again reinforce the fact that THIS WOMAN CAN SING! Furthermore, the remixes are very good. The way the CD is arranged, it is like listening to one long mix of "One Night Only" with variations on the theme. Such dance CD's, complete with numerous mixes of the same song, can often be boring and monotonous. This one is not. It is highly entertaining and deserves to become a huge club hit. My only complaints in regard to the product are not with the mixes or the vocals, which are both superb, but with the packaging of the CD single. It comes in a simple clear jewel case with a small sticker photo of Scherrie on the back side. For $7.99, I think we deserved a better CD package with an insert detailing the recording processes and so forth, as well as a nice photo of the artist - as opposed to the cheapie sticker we get and the annonymous CD case. But that is my gripe. The music, as I said, is FANTASTIC. Download the tracks or purchase the CD. Make Scherrie Payne a part of your library. She is a totally gifted entertainer! (R.C., 2/13/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Listening to the clips, I thought I was buying 3 very different 2007 extended mixes. I was disappointed to hear that they start exactly the same, are the same length, have the vocals start at the same time and are essentially the same mix except for the instrumentation under the vocals. I would just stick to the Retrolicious Club mix as this has the fullest sound and adds piano which reminds me of the film. It was nice to get the Original Recipe Dreamgirl Mix as I only had one version of the Megatone 12" which skipped the ballad intro and went straight to the dance part (still my favorite version). (M.L., 1/6/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Wait till you hear the TNT remix of this track AWESOME (D.H., 2/12/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Great vocals, but the overall production is very mediocre. (W.A., 2/1/2007 see all my reviews >> )

The girl sounds half in the can, because of how disconnected she sounds to the lyrics. Her voice is amazingly strong... but she sounds like the vocal equivilant to those America's Next Top Model Girls who look hot but don't know what the hell to do with them selfs in front of a camera (it's called posing bitches!). I would not be as harsh, if not for the fact that she has had a couple of DECADES to get it right! (V.S., 2/1/2007 see all my reviews >> )

Such a great song.....such a bad production. Vocals sound week and sounds as if it were being broadcast over a transistor radio. Too Too Bad. (DJ Sue, 2/1/2007 see all my reviews >> )

TERRIBLE!! Boring "house"-mixes and vocals that can't be compaired with either the originals or the new version...too bad... (M.E., 1/8/2007 see all my reviews >> )

I have yet to hear a club mix of anything Dreamgirls that lives up to the Rosabel mix of "And I'm Telling You" from several years ago. This is a major disappointment. Embarrassing for Scherrie and for everyone involved in rushing this production onto shelves. --djmark marquis (M.M., 2/11/2007 see all my reviews >> )

I DO have the original version of this song....on vinyl and I'm sorry to say it sounds a heck of a lot better than this version. I loved Sherrie's music back in the day and played them in the clubs I worked at, but I'm sorry this version still need to be beefed up and the vocals made stronger and fuller. I cannot play this version in the club today. I have the utmost respect for Ms Payne, and I thought all the labels and producers wanted feed back about their latest accomplishments. I have belonged to some major DJ Associations where we submited feedback to the labels, it was part of our duties for receiving music. Please don't take it so harsh. We're just giving honest feedback. (DJ Sue, 2/2/2007 see all my reviews >> )
