Artists typically self-title their debut album, but when they choose to title they're third or fourth record, it's often meant to indicate a sort of "coming of age" and fans are urged to take heed. Having several previous entries under their belt, including the Funky Green Dogs' full catalog, Murk aren't new artists by any means, but their new self-titled release essentially blows all of their previous work out of the water. The quality of tribal house and progressive vocal tracks featured on Murk doesn't get much better than the kind found on such production marvels as "True," "Opera" and the legendary "Some Lovin'" featuring Kristine W. If this album were a DJ mix, we probably wouldn't be able to keep it on our shelves, as Murk offers the ideal brand of circuit-styled beats that most shoppers are searching for. DJs should be aware that Murk is also available on unmixed 12" vinyl, an essential item for tribal jocks everywhere.
