Average review: 4.5/5.0 (8 reviews) I must say I was surprised when I first heard of this release. Having met these gals at a Supremes Convention years ago, I can honestly say they are great! Talented, humble, sweet, and absolutely deserving of this new-found appreciation by the gay community. I LOVE the L.E.X. mix! (It seems reminiscent of Thunderpuss.) Look for Scherrie Payne's 1977 Motown track "Fly"... rare, but awesome! You might also like the 1979 Motown album "Partners" by Scherrie and Susaye Greene, another "Former Lady". (Their name always made them sound like trannies to me!) Much love!! (B.B., 9/9/2006 see all my reviews >> )
This single is absolutely causing chaos & commotion on many dancefloors worldwide. The Former Ladies Of the Supremes are back in action folks! If you love soulful house/dance in the musical vein of The Sweet Inspirations, The Weather Girls, Inaya Day, Pat Hodges, and Kathy Brown then this is just the ticket. The always amazing Scherrie Payne is back on lead vocal, and the record is just plain fun! My crew is sold on the Original Recipe mix for now, but mixes by L.E.X. and Soul Shakers are close seconds.
The bonus track Love & Hapiness makes this CD a must-have. Like legendary Sylvester said of Two Tons O' Fun "These women can sing ya'll" (PAUL MCGEE, 8/20/2006 see all my reviews >> )
Putting aside the "classics," there was nothing like Scherrie and "Let My Heart do the Walking." Nice to hear something new from Scherrie and FLOS. The mixes are all pumping, but my favorite is the Supreme Voices club mix, and for a dub, the LEX dub is killer. Go Sistas! (C.M., 8/12/2006 see all my reviews >> )
Fab girl twirl with campy lyrics ("We've come too far to let somebody get down on our star...") from ex-Supremes. (Any coincidence they're called FLOS, as in the plural of Flo (Ballard)?) The LEX club mix is the best of the lot, though they're all pretty good. Upbeat, infectious and just plain fun. What more could one want? (c.t., 8/11/2006 see all my reviews >> )
This is "way-gay"! But, lots of fun! It's like a flashback to the 70's and First Choice, The Three Degrees, and (of course) The Supremes. "L.E.X." turns out another great circuit-style anthem, while "Soulshaker", "RDS" and "Original Recipe" are all nice variations of disco house. DJ Mark Bisson (M.B., 7/27/2006 see all my reviews >> )
These ladies are the “grapes of disco music”! A-s time passes the talent has perfected – Scherrie Payne pulls us into a tune that Lynda Lawrence and Freddi Poole accent beautifully. “Sister’s United” marks a time when vocal ensembles are missing power and exist only to imitate. This crew sets a standard for dance music now. It generates excitement and energy – the way dance music was formulated. - The mixes on this CD are fitting and wise. L.E.X. moves us into a haze of flowing synths that create a silk stage for the wonderful vocals. Soulshaker Mix provides a thumping disco united with a hi-tech feel. RDS Supremes Mix pulls a definite sound and the Original Recipe sets the stage for full energy potential of this song. Either mix creates an original feel for “Sister’s United (We’re In Control)”. My ears tell me this one will be appreciated during its time – and long after. Glen-n George Rivera SHADES OF SEVENTIES (G.R., 7/26/2006 see all my reviews >> )
The years may have passed, but these ladies are still a class act - hot and hip too! This one's definitely a keeper! (W.A., 7/26/2006 see all my reviews >> )
Great rich voices. But, boring overdone lyrical content.
Yes, you're sistuhs and you're doin it for yo-self... but we've heard this before. Sing about LUBE or dumping that man, or something! That's what we want!
The most fun I had with this song, was as I clicked the "RDS supreme voices remix radio" and then clicked it in the list in the perfect beat player, that first .3 second "uh" i clicked it over and over and over. what a great sample!
You could have fun oversampling that with a beat and making your OWN mix! (BearTunes, 9/7/2006 see all my reviews >> )
